If you love animals, check out the many ways you can help the SPCA help Hancock County pets in need. We’d love to have you join our volunteer family. Contact SPCA Volunteer Coordinator Barbara Dow by phone at 207-667-8088 or by e-mail for more information.

Dog Training

Join our team in working weekly with our SPCA dogs to make them more adoptable for future homes by helping out in our basic manners and socialization classes.

Events/Friend Builder Team

Join this team in working towards reaching out in the community by assisting with special events, fund raisers, and community projects.

Media/Marketing Team

Do you love to be the voice on the radio? Would you like to share some TV airtime with an animal in need? What about social networking? If so, this team is for you!

Transporters

Are you willing to take a road trip out of town or out of state? By being a transporter, you can help us take animals to veterinary appointments and assist us in networking with other shelters so we can work together to make sure more animals find safe, loving homes.

Writers

Do you enjoy writing? If so, we could use your expertise to help us put together grant proposals, press releases and articles for our newsletter.

Website Editors

If you’re a blogger and/or you know your way around a website, we could use your help! Keeping our website up to date with information about our wonderful adoptable animals and our upcoming classes and events is an ongoing task, and it’s a vital part of our outreach.

Dog Walkers

Want to get fit but don’t want to walk alone? Pick up one of our shelter dogs for a walk around our grounds.

Clean-up Crew

We want to keep our shelter very clean for the animals as they await their forever homes. If cleaning is your thing, we need you.

Foster Families

Some of our animals need to be in foster homes because they need socialization or special care. Would you be willing to temporarily open your home to an SPCA animal in need? If so, please join our Foster Family Team!

Youths

For liability reasons, you must be 18 years old to volunteer at the SPCA.

Parent/Youth Team

If you are under 18, you may come in supervised by a parent or guardian to volunteer for events or animal socialization.
