As the date (October 26) for our first How-O-Run 5k approaches, many of our supporters may be thinking that this would be a great opportunity for their canine buddies to accompany them during their show of support for homeless animals. Running and walking are good exercise for two-legged and four-legged participants. Most dogs thrive when they engage in regular physical activity. Even if your canine companion has access to a fenced yard, very rarely will dogs ‘exercise’ alone. Daily exercise can go a long way…

Howl-O-Run Fun

Sign up for the SPCA’s first ever 5K! This fun event takes place on Saturday, October 26th, at 2:00 pm at the Woodlawn Museum, 19 Black House Drive, Ellsworth. Enjoy the autumn colors while running or walking on a wooded trail decorated with Jack-o-Lanterns.  Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome, and costumes are encouraged! How to make a huge difference…Volunteer!

It takes a community—especially to help homeless animals. The SPCA of Hancock County cares for approximately 600 animals every year. They come to us through a variety of circumstances most definitely not of their own making. They come sometimes ill, injured and broken-hearted. We work to make their lives better both while they are at the shelter and for the future. Who is we? We are the small staff and many more volunteers. Pet of the Week: Maggie

Maggie is a kitty who knows what she likes, and isn’t afraid to tell you about it! She learned very quickly that snack time is between 4 and 5 pm for the cats at the shelter. Maggie loves snack time! She wakes up from her afternoon nap and starts watching us starting at 3:30, and as soon as she sees someone coming with a treat container, she stretches, yawns, and begins to meow at us insistently.
