Available Cats

You can visit our cats in the lobby and rooms Wednesdays through Saturdays from 12pm to 4pm. No appointment is needed, but if you want to adopt, you must fill out an application and be approved. We also recommend bringing a carrier with you. All adopted cats must leave the building in either your personal carrier or in a purchased cardboard carrier.

Our staff will review your application in about 3 to 7 business days, depending on how many applications have come in and on how easy it is to get in touch with your veterinarian and/or landlord. We do a vet check and, if you rent, landlord check for every applicant. If you want to speed the process along, please feel free to have your veterinarian or landlord contact us at 207-667-8088 or info@spcahancockcounty.org or attach records to your application.

Meet our cats!

Want to adopt but don't see what you're looking for?

New animals come through our doors all the time. If you fill out an application today, we can go through the process of approving it so that when an animal does come through that strikes your fancy, you can skip the wait and let us know you’re interested.

Thank you for your interest in adopting from us! We pride ourselves on our care for our animals. Each animal adopted:
  •  is spayed/neutered
  •  is microchipped (and you will be given the chance to register their chip for life for a one-time fee at the time of adoption)
  •  has received at least one distemper vaccination
  •  has received a rabies vaccination if age appropriate (kittens under 12 weeks old are not old enough for the rabies vaccine)
  •  is current on heartworm (dogs only) and flea preventative (both cats and dogs)
  •  has been treated for intestinal parasites
  • Dogs are tested for heartworm and tick-borne diseases
  • At-risk cats are tested for both FIV and FeLV
