Pet Dental Health Awareness

As a pet parent, you get to play a leading role in your cat or dog’s dental health! Regular dental care at home is an essential component of your pet’s total health.

The 3-3-3 Rule for Adopting

2023 was a wonderful year for adoptions, with hundreds of animals finding homes and starting new lives full of love and companionship! As a new year begins with new pets seeking homes, we want to share the 3-3-3 Rule for adopting pets. Before explaining further, we would like to emphasize that this is a general guideline, as there, unfortunately, isn’t a magical timeline for when all pets will acclimate to their new homes.

Adopt a Senior Pet Month

Currently, at the shelter we have over a dozen amazing cats that are frequently passed over because of their status as senior/older cats. There are many misconceptions about older kitties, but the life expectancy of cats has actually increased dramatically with a range of 13 – 17 years, and it is not uncommon for a domestic cat to live up to 20! Here at the SPCA-HC, we also have a senior-to-senior discount, where folks over the age of 65 adopting a senior cat get 30% off their adoption!

National Pet Wellness Month

The statement “they are my whole life” isn’t an exaggeration for our pets. We are their only vessel of safety, love, and care – we can’t let them down.

Responsibility Saves Lives

Endless benefits come with owning a pet, especially for children! In fact, the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry states that pet ownership positively affects children’s physical, mental, and social-emotional health. Of course, the benefits can only shine through when responsible pet ownership is a top priority. While talking about the wonderful parts of having a fuzzy friend is more fun, it’s important to discuss the consequences of ignoring prevention, recommendations, and warning signs.
