Animal Care Associate

$19 PER HOUR.

The Animal Care Associate works independently and as part of a team to provide exceptional care, enrichment, and adoption opportunities to animals of the SPCA of Hancock County.  They maintain an organized, clean, and safe indoor and outdoor environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care and support to cats and dogs with compassion
  • Handle cats of many different temperaments safely
  • Handle dogs of varying sizes and temperaments safely
  • Monitor animal behavior and health
  • Perform basic physical examinations
  • Administer medication and treatment as directed
  • Bathe and groom animals
  • Exercise and socialize animals to ensure their well-being and adoptability
  • Maintain accurate records of animal care and observations
  • Follow safety protocols
  • Maintain sanitary environment
  • Clean shelter areas and equipment
  • Participate in inventory management
  • Keep up with high demands of laundry and dishes
  • Assist visitors, volunteers, and coworkers
  • Communicate with potential adopters and other members of the community in a friendly and knowledgeable manner

Job Requirements:

  • Be solution-oriented
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, early mornings, and late evenings
  • Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Willing to work in all weather conditions in all seasons
  • Comfortable working with community members and humans with varying personalities
  • Open to learning new ideas and techniques
  • Able to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing
  • Able to remain on feet for long periods of time
  • Able to lift 40 lbs safely
