One of the most common reasons beloved pets are surrendered to animal shelters like ours is because of the cost of emergency vet care. Just one accident or surprise diagnosis, and that bill can unexpectedly set pet parents back. But it doesn't have to mean giving up a family member. The Mickey Duffy fund exists to help keep pets in the homes they love by providing relief for emergency veterinary bills. This fund was started by Tom Duffy, who was the county’s head of courthouse maintenance in 2012 and 2013. Tom adopted Mickey, a border collie, after the dog had suffered serious injuries from his previous owner. Tom often brought Mickey to work with him, where Mickey was welcomed and cheered in his rehabilitation by courthouse staff. Sadly Tom Duffy died in 2014, but he created The Mickey Duffy Trust Fund for Animal Rescue in his will. Now you can help keep this fund alive to make sure more pets stay with the families that love them.
