Lily

We have a wonderful Happy Tails courtesy of one of our amazing volunteers, Dave!

“Lily came to the HC-SPCA in October 2022. I met her in one of her first days when she arrived and fell in love with her affability coupled with her gentle spirit. While I have my full quota of critters in our household (2 dogs and 2 cats-all rescues), a perfect family came to mind. I have worked at the Acadia Corporation where bringing dogs to work has been a long-standing tradition I started in the late 70’s (yes, I’ve been there a long time!).  Our operations manager, Matt, had been working with us for several years when they got a new goldendoodle puppy, “Shilo”.  In early October ’22, Shilo got out of the and was fatally struck by a car. The entire family, Matt, his wife Bekah and their three young children were devastated.

After meeting “Lily”, I sent the family a video of Lily and implored them to contact the SPCA asap to express an interest in Lily.  In early November ’22 Lily went home to her furever family and has been a fixture in their home since then. For me, it was not only rewarding to see a wonderful dog find a new home but even better, I get to see Lily at work several times a week. She is a wonderful dog who has fit into both her new families both at home and at work. Every now and then when no one is looking, Lily  gives me a wink, letting me know that she remembers our first meeting at the SPCA and thanking me for the wonderful family I helped connect her with..

I have attached Bekah’s e-mail and photos commemorating Lily’s one-year anniversary of going to her furever home.

This is what makes volunteering at the SPCA so worthwhile to me!

Happy Tails,

Dave”

More HAPPY TAILS:

Amos/Scooby!

We had previously shared that Scooby was our current longest-cat resident at the SPCA-HC, having been here since April. We were hoping he may get an adoption application from the post, but we were hesitant to get too hopeful, as Scooby had some health needs that tend to scare people away, including being FIV+ and needing a special diet for diabetic remission.

Anyway, we posted Scooby’s lengthy stay status and asked the community to share his story in hopes that he would find a furever home, and boy, did you all deliver! His story was shared far and wide… and then, we received a message.

Lacuna

Hey everyone! It’s me, Lacuna! I have been with my new family for over a month now and my goodness do I love it. I get spoiled every day with love, endless head kisses, and rubs. My fur mom said she came with the intent of getting a cat only a year or two old but when she saw me she knew I was the one.

Bandit & Thelma

Bandit, with his big frame and welcoming nature, tended to be an attention grabber at the shelter, while shy little Thelma was a bit overlooked. What most people didn’t see, was that after the hustle and bustle of shelter life settled down in the evening, Thelma was found hanging out with her favorite cat – Bandit! Inevitably, someone fell in love with Bandit and wanted to give him a new furrever home! We were so happy for him … but what about Thelma?
