The SPCA of Hancock County and the entire community has lost a wonderful friend and devoted animal advocate. Michele Abbott-Croan, a former SPCA board member and longtime volunteer, passed away on August 20 following a brave battle with cancer.

Michele was loved by all who knew her – both two-legged and four-legged. Michele, a Mount Desert Island native, had volunteered for the SPCA for more than 10 years, coordinating bake sales, pet fairs, and craft shows, and was one of the chief organizers of the SPCA’s annual signature fundraiser, Wine & Whiskers. Her devotion and love for animals – and people – was unwavering. Michele’s sense of humor, energy and smile lit up a room and everyone loved her.

Our deepest sympathies go out to Michele’s wonderful husband, Charlie, her family, friends and fur babies. Michele’s memory and her love of animals will live forever at the SPCA and in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
