You may have heard of Petfinder, one of the most popular online databases for finding an adoptable pet. The SPCA of Hancock County lists our available cats and dogs on Petfinder to help find them homes, but there’s another great benefit that Petfinder offers us!

They have a program called Sponsor a Pet. Through this program you can sponsor an SPCA HC available animal right from your home.  This is a great way to help the shelter animals even if you aren’t ready to adopt right now!

To sponsor an SPCA HC adoptable pet, first go to their Petfinder listing on Petfinder.com. We try to link to each animal’s Petfinder listing on our Facebook page, but you can also use Petfinder’s search function to look for our shelter. (We are located in Trenton, ME, 04605.)

When you’re viewing an SPCA of Hancock County adoptable animal on Petfinder, the listing looks like this:

Adoptable cats Onyx and Raven are special needs kitties who you can sponsor through their Petfinder listing.

If you look at the right hand side of the listing, you’ll see two buttons: “Ask About Onyx and Raven,” and “Sponsor Onyx and Raven.” The “Sponsor…” button will lead you to this screen:

Here you can select the amount for a one-time donation to their care and choose whether you’d like to donate anonymously or give us your name. If you’d like, you can also write us a message.

Funds we recieve through Sponsor a Pet are applied to the care of the animals at the shelter. We may use them for food, medicine, and vet care for the animals. We sometimes have long-term residents who have special needs, such as Onyx and Raven. The SPCA of Hancock County is a no-kill shelter, which means that long-term residents will be kept safe and comfortable for as long as is needed to find them a home. We can do this because our amazing community members assist us through programs such as Sponsor a Pet. Thank you for helping us help the animals we all love!
